Sales of ready-made meals for home consumption have grown by 8.7%, reaching 643,990 tonnes, according to Nielsen data cited by the Spanish Association of Ready-Made Meal Manufacturers. Specifically, consumption of ready-to-eat meals at home stands at 16.94 kg per capita.
MOST CONSUMED PRODUCTS
In general terms, pizza, croquettes, rice dishes, and pasta are the most in-demand products.
Also noteworthy is the growth seen in fish/seafood-based ready meals (13,254 tonnes sold, a 21% increase) and meat-based ones (20,380 tonnes and 17.4% growth).
By category, potato-based dishes are the most in-demand within the frozen foods category (69,842 tonnes, with 10% growth), while legume-based dishes take the top spot in the ambient ready-meal category (19,608 tonnes, with 12.7% growth).
Chilled ready meals hold a 47.5% share, followed by frozen meals (39.5%) and ambient-temperature meals (13%).
